Guidance for all Instructors: Welcome and RTC Standing Operating Procedures

Who are we?

We are a volunteer run members Sailing Club operating at an inland lake at Littleton near Shepperton Film Studios. We are a division of the Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA) which supports Dinghy and Yacht sailing nationwide, and part of CSSC (a not for profit organisation) which owns the lake, and through which members access subsidised recreation activities.

Littleton RYA Recognised Training Centre (RTC).

Our RYA Training offer is exclusively for Club Members. We are authorised to deliver a full range of Youth and Adult Dinghy courses, Level 2 & Safety PowerBoat courses listed in our RYA Recognition Certificate displayed in the entrance foyer. As part of annual RYA Inspection of our centre operations, procedures and practices, all volunteer Coaches must confirm understanding of our Standard Operating Procedures, and ensure our training complies with RYA syllabus and standards.

Our Aims.

We want all our Members to enjoy and excel in sailing, participating as a sport for life. We want to provide RYA Training to a high standard by harnessing your skills, enthusiasm and using the guidance and resources available to all Coaches. We want to deliver an experience through which all those participating (including Coaches) enjoy and develop sailing. We expect clear, courteous communication, and respect for everyone's abilities. Amongst Coaches, this includes offering and receiving effective and constructive feedback.

As Coaches, others will look to us as exemplars. At all times, we must demonstrate best practice in our clothing, our behaviour and our sailing practice. Please exhibit full control of your boat at all times, with meticulous etiquette when rigging or launching. Please always wear a correctly fitted buoyancy aid when on the pontoons or water, with a whistle. Check every boat before launching for seaworthiness and correct rigging. When a wetsuit/drysuit is required to be worn by club rules, please do so.

Coaching and supporting fellow members to sail can be rewarding and fun. If we can improve on how we run things, please speak up, and help make Littleton even better!

Please download and read the RTC welcome brochure, and our current RTC Standing Operating Procedures.
